Pop Up Poetry – Valentine’s Weekend 2016

Saturday, February 13th

Brooks Winery, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Poetry is “on the house” this Saturday, courtesy of the amazing Brooks Winery! Come to their gorgeous tasting room for some exquisite wine flights, a phenomenal view, and excellent conversation. Ask me to type up a poem on my vintage typewriter for you, or as a gift to someone! Give a subject; get a poem. It’s that easy. And what pairs better than wine and poetry? Donations accepted, and don’t forget to tip your server! See you there!

Sunday, February 14th

Broadway Coffeehouse, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

As a teaser for the 2:00 p.m. event “Poetry in Performance,” I will be busking Pop Up Poetry at the Coffeehouse for a special Valentine’s Day treat. Be sure to support the Broadway Coffeehouse with a drink purchase, and tip your baristas!

THEN–stick around for Poetry in Performance, hosted by the Mid-Valley Poetry Society (Salem’s chapter of the Oregon Poetry Association), which will be at Broadway Coffeehouse from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Be sure to attend! You won’t want to miss this event.

Vagabond Brewery, 6:00 p.m. – ?? (this event is awaiting confirmation, TBA)

Enjoy a totally relaxed environment this Valentine’s evening at Vagabond Brewery. There will be cheese, beer, and wine in abundance. Grab a beer, grab a poem, grab a valentine tonight, and salute the Love of friends, of family, and of significant or not-so-significant others. Cheers!

Pop Up Poetry: “Family”

I never turn down anyone. I love you people. All of you. Come…talk with me. Tell me your story; I want to hear it. And, if I may, I will memorialize it for you because your life is just as beautiful as the next.

Lovely meeting this little family of three–mom, dad, and 3-month-old Vincenzo. Hope to see you guys in Portland sometime!

Our Impossible Story

“Our Impossible Love” by #JessicaMurdoch the #RhetoricalRedhead. A snippet of our story.❤ On behalf of the day of St. Valentine…Love should be easy. But Love also requires some work. Love is not just an emotion, but also an action…a CHOICE…a daily effort to give yourself completely to another person without expecting anything in return. If you put forth the effort, and work hard to be partners in everything, it will be easy. If the effort isn’t there…love fades and resentment grows. Marriage is different than engagement is different than dating…it’s fascinating how a relationship can grow and deepen. We have experienced all three and there’s no going back, only forward. We learned the hard way that Love and Respect are paramount…Love needs nurturing; it takes two giving 100% on both sides. My dear, I meant what I said in my vows…and no matter how much pain I was in, I knew you were struggling with the same thing I was battling against. And I had to stop wallowing; we needed to lean into each other more than ever if we were to pull through. Look at us…how we were on the brink of divorce, but we survived by the sheer grace of God. We stopped, and made a choice. We decided to stop pitying ourselves and chose to reexamine each other’s pain. Dear reader…lifelong love isn’t about the warm, fuzzy feeling you get when they are around (although it’s certainly nice)…it really is about sacrificing yourself daily…choosing THEM daily…giving unconditionally to the other simply because their happiness is that important to you. Love is easy. Love is hard, too. But the hard-fought battles are the ones worth telling when you rise up victorious despite all the odds and all the doubters whispering in your ear…and we had plenty, let me tell you. But I’m a believer now. I believe in True Love. We fought hard for it and earned it when the dust settled. Love always wins when you give it a chance. Even when it hurts. Especially when it hurts. Here’s to us, babe, and to all you lovers out there…be you single, dating, engaged, married, divorced, widowed, separated…don’t give up. Love and keep loving. ❤❤❤

Chronic fatigue has led me to this conclusion, darling. ❤ Your truth is worth every moment spent in my level of hell.

First “Live” Pop Up Poetry Request

Well. I broke the ice. My very first “live” #PopUpPoetry request was for such a sweet, newly-engaged couple at @archivecoffeeandbar. She had just shared with him her long-time dream of being a florist, and I whipped this up to commemorate their new beginnings and exciting future. I was surprised and deeply humbled to receive not only a surprise donation for my spontaneous, impromptu gesture, but also tears of joy and a hug. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect First than this. ❤ Blessings upon you both, M & B; thank you for your kindness and the wonderful opportunity to kick-start my little business! I wish you all the joy and happiness in your adventures together. #perfect
